The Leadership of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) of OAUSTECH expresses its profound disappointment and outrage over the Federal Government’s handling of critical issues affecting our members in Universities and Inter-Universities Centres.
In line with the national directives of our great unions, we protest the egregious manner in which the Federal Government has treated the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement, withheld salaries, and arrears of salaries, among other pressing concerns. The administration of President Bola Tinubu had promised an era of uninterrupted academic activities in our tertiary institutions, but the recent handling of issues affecting non-teaching staff tells a different story – one of dribbling, empty promises, and raising forlorn hope.
We condemn, in the strongest terms, the Federal Government’s lackadaisical approach to addressing our legitimate demands. We insist that immediate action be taken to address our requests, lest the situation escalates and forces the closure of our tertiary institutions. We will not stand idly by while the welfare of our members is sacrificed on the altar of bureaucratic red tape and governmental indifference.
We call on the Federal Government to demonstrate its commitment to the well-being of our members by taking concrete steps to:
– Renegotiate the 2009 agreement without further delay
– Release withheld salaries and arrears
– Address other outstanding issues affecting our members
We warn that failure to act promptly will have dire consequences, including the possible shutdown of our institutions.
