The People’s Democratic Party’s candidate in the approaching November 2024 gubernatorial election in Ondo state, H. E. Agboola Alfred Ajayi has canvassed for good welfare deal for media practitioners to ensure accurate informations are put in the public space.
Ajayi made the submission in a message to identify with the media as the World Press Freedom Day is marked globally.
In the message issued in Akure, by the Agboola Ajayi Campaign Organisation Spokesperson, Samuel Ogunmusi, the PDP candidate wants, what he described as “a worthwhile welfare package” for media personnels, so that their reports can be devoid of biases and sentiments that can mislead the people into making wrong decisions.
“Journalists are opinion moulders, people make their decisions based on the information made available to them by the media”.
” That is why it is important that information being churned out are not influenced and the only way that can be prevented, is if the media personnels are well remunerated so that they will be able to ward off temptations that could make them compromise in the line of duty”
Ajayi pointed out that the Media in Nigeria is doing creditably well and has been able to give a good account of itself within the limits of freedom available.
He thus charged media owners to make paramount, the welfare of their workers, concluding that, it is only by doing this, that the media can be truly free insisting that “financial freedom is the true freedom”.
