The Director General Of Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization, Victor Olabimtan, has said that Nigeria is still lagging behind in conducting a peaceful protest unlike other countries in Europe and America.
Olabimtan who is also the chairman of Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board spoke to journalists in his home town at Supare Akoko, in Akoko South West Local Government area of the state on Sunday during meeting with APC members.
He noted that although it is the right of the citizens to protest, such an act should be done peacefully.
According to him, ” protests in Africa usually led to hoodlums and miscreants looting and destroying properties including government properties.”
He urged youths to sheath their sword as the president is ready to listen to them and do the needful.
He said, “First and foremost, protest is a legitimate thing. Everybody has the right to protest. My quarrel with protest in Nigeria is that there is no protest that has taken place in Nigeria, that does not end in destruction. If you go to Europe or America, people may protest for one month and they will not destroy any single property.
“In Africa, when they protest, before the third day the whole thing will go ill wire. Hoodlums, miscreants and enemies of the government will join and they will start looting, destroying and burning properties. We are still far away from that culture of doing peaceful protests. We need peace now.
“The economy has been battered and you cannot spend just one year to put what is wrong right. For those who want to protest, it is their right to protest, but because of the peculiar nature we are in in Nigeria, I appeal to all of them to sheath their sword. We have a listening president who will listen to them, who will do the rightful thing for the people of Nigeria.”
Reacting on the forthcoming governorship election in the state, Olabimtan added that the party was ready to move into action debunking the rumor of an internal crisis within the party.
Describing Aiyedatiwa as the best candidate, he described him as a man who is composed and principled with the capacity to be the governor.
He added “The party is ready, we are moving into action. There is no crisis whatsoever in the party, in fact we are going stronger and stronger everyday. As some are leaving, the people that are joining are more than those that are leaving, if three leaves, 100 comes in. Those who are coming in are much more and they will do more than those who are leaving.
“Aiyedatiwa is the best candidate. There are no other candidates that can beat him. He is composed, he has the capacity, capability, educational background, resources and everything that it takes to be a governor.
“In the last six months, the whole people in Ondo state and Nigeria at large know that we have a governor who is principled, who knows what he is doing, where he is going and a governor who knows the needs of the people of Ondo state and who wants to meet all those needs.
In his reaction, one of the party steward, Niran Olanusi, who is also the son of a former Deputy Governor of the state disclosed that Aiyedatiwa made it easy for them to mobilize supporters for the party due to his excellent performance.
According to him, the party has no opposition in the state as the majority of the people especially in Akoko area are ready to show their support to the governor through their vote in the forthcoming election.
