Ahead of the November 16,2024 governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo state said its governorship candidate for the election would emerge from the Southern senatorial districts in the state.
The former governorship candidate of the PDP in the state, Eyitayo Jegede,SAN from Akure in the Central Senatorial District who was reported to have been interested in contesting this year’s poll might drop his ambition due to the party’s arrangements.
The decision was disclosed during stakeholders’ meeting of the party in Akure, the state capital on Friday, which was attended PDP leaders from all the 18 local government areas of the state.
The acting state chairman, Tola Alabere said in the meeting that several meetings had been held with party leaders and the governorship aspirants on whether to adopt zoning arrangement.
According to the chairman, it was a unanimous agreement that the party candidate should come from the southern part of the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has slated the gubernatorial election in the state for November 16, 2024.
Political parties have been directed by the commission to hold their primaries from April 6 to April 27.
The state secretary, Oluseye Olujimi said arrangements had been put in place for the smooth conduct of the party primary.
During the meeting of the governorship aspirants with the party leadership earlier in the week, they agreed to work together , towards producing a consensus candidate for the party.
