As the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants in Ondo State gear up for the April 20 primary election, the APC Grassroots Forum (APC-GF) has revealed that it has uncovered a clandestine plot to stop Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa from getting the party’s ticket.
The group, while exonerating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from involvement, alleged that the scheme is backed by cabals in the Villa who are determined to deny Aiyedatiwa the party ticket in Favour of a particular aspirant.
A statement signed by the National Coordinator, Bar Haruna Ogundele, specifically raised concerns about the committee recently constituted by the APC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, for the Ondo State primary election.
The APC Grassroots Forum (APC-GF) questioned why the party would set up an election committee without an Appeal Committee, insuniating that the party is planning to deny a specific aspirant the ticket.
The group accused Ganduje of being subservient to certain “cabals” in the Villa, claiming that it received credible information that he was directed to appoint a known opponent of Aiyedatiwa as Chairman of the committee.
The group called on President Tinubu to call those who are using his name for their self-political agenda at the APC headquarters to order, warning that any move to deny a sitting governor the party will backfire.
“We are aware of the ongoing plot by these cabals in the villa to stop Aiyedatiwa from getting the party ticket. We also know that the committee set up by the Ganduje yesterday was the work of these cabals.
“The handwriting is clear that these people are not going to back down, which is why they need to ensure that the committee members are those who despise Aiyedaitwa in the party.
“Enough is enough. APC belongs to all of us, and we will not let some self-serving politicians manipulate our future. We do not wish for what happened in Edo State in 2020 to happen again, but if the party continues in this manner, the APC should bid Ondo State farewell.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa has received tremendous support from Ondo State residents of all ages since he was sworn in. Ondo State wants Aiyedatiwa, and APC should not impose an unpopular candidate on the party”, the statement reads.
