Okitipupa LG Chairman, Andrew Ogunsakin Suspends Scavenging, Scrap Metal Operations

Following the recent incident that occurred within Okitipupa Local Government, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Andrew Ogunsakin, has ordered the indefinite suspension of all scavenging and scrap metal operations across the Local Government Area.

RAYOPOST had reported that a scavenger allegedly stabbed a middle-aged man, Ogo Omoge to death in the area last weekend.

The Chief Press Secretary to the chairman, Tosin Ayejusunle in a statement on Tuesday said the measure is aimed at addressing the growing security challenges in the council area.

The statement reads, ” This decisive measure is aimed at addressing the growing security concerns posed by unregulated scavenging activities, often linked to itinerant individuals. The Chairman emphasized that these activities, if left unchecked, endanger public safety and critical infrastructure.

” In addition, he has directed the immediate profiling of all scavengers and scrap metal operators within the LGA, in collaboration with security agencies and community leaders, to restore order and ensure accountability.

” Security operatives have been mandated to strictly enforce this order, with violators facing the full weight of the law.

” Residents are urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative as the administration takes firm steps to safeguard lives and property.”
