The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has officially unveiled Éric Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The unveiling ceremony, held on Monday, 13th January 2024, at the conference room of the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, was attended by prominent figures in Nigerian football, including Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, and Secretary General Mohammed Sanusi.
Chelle, 47, recently stepped down from his managerial role at the Algerian club MC Oran to assume leadership of the Super Eagles.
He brings with him a full complement of backroom staff, featuring First Assistant Hadi Taboubi, Fitness Trainer Thomas Gornourec, and Goalkeeper Trainer Jean Daniel Padovani.
Chelle said, ” I want to thank my agent, the NFF, the NSC and indeed all Nigerians for this big opportunity.
“Coaching the Super Eagles of Nigeria is an amazing job; I do not take this appointment for granted. I am elated and will do my utmost best.
“Football is about scoring goals, so I favour an attacking style. I know the expectations of Nigerians and I will settle down and work diligently with assistants towards the goal of qualifying the Super Eagles to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
The NFF had previously confirmed that Chelle will oversee preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
This assignment presents an early opportunity for Chelle to evaluate domestic talent and gain momentum as he prepares the team for the World Cup Qualifiers in March.
