Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities(SSANU) in the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa has called on the Ondo state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa to be deliberate in his efforts at providing more funds for university education in the state.
The SSANU – OAUSTECH chairman, ‘Dayo Temola in a statement made available to RAYOPOST on Thursday explained that the lack of adequate funding has impeded the institutions from carrying out its responsibilities including research and community services.
The statement reads, ” We have noticed with great concern that the way and manner issues concerning tertiary education in the country, particularly in Ondo State, are treated may portend danger for the future of the state and the county at large.
” These issues include inadequate funding culminating in non implementation of allowances of staff,stalling research, and community services.
” The most pathetic is the failure of the government not to pay the approved wage award to tertiary institution workers even when they are the worst hit with inflationary tendencies in the state.
” We call on Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa to prioritize funding of Education in Ondo State beyond media promises.
” As it stands,workers in the tertiary institutions in Ondo State are not happy and it is a keg of gunpowder that may explode soon.”
