The Ekiti State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) has commenced the bid opening process for the construction of a dual-function ultra-modern abattoir located along the Iworoko/Ekiti State University (EKSU) Road, Ado-Ekiti.
Declaring the event opened, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to boosting livestock productivity and improving meat processing infrastructure in the state.
Mr. Boluwade emphasized the importance of transparency and due process in the bid selection, assuring all stakeholders that the project will be awarded strictly based on merit and compliance with procurement regulations.
He stressed that the initiative aligns with broader vision under L-PRES to promote food safety, improve meat hygiene and enhance the livelihoods of livestock stakeholders.
Also speaking at the event, the Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement,Mr James Folorunso, represented by the Director of Public Procurement, Engr. Omoniyi Adebayo commended the L-PRES team for upholding the principles of accountability and openness in the procurement process.
Adebayo urged all participating contractors to adhere to standard bidding procedures and follow the principles of due process in terms of contract awards.
In his contribution, the State Project Coordinator L-PRES, Mr. Olayinka Adedipe, expressed optimism that the abattoir project will bring significant transformation to meat processing and livestock value chains in Ekiti.
He noted that the facility, when completed, will serve both commercial and regulatory functions, ensuring compliance with modern slaughtering, sanitation and food safety standards.
Earlier, the Procurement Officer L-PRES, Mr. Alabi Sunday, conducted the technical aspects of the bid opening and verified the submitted documents in accordance with national and donor-agency procurement guidelines.
The proposed abattoir is expected to operate dual functions, catering to both large-scale commercial meat production and public health regulation, thereby addressing critical gaps in the livestock sector and contributing to food security in the State.
Those in attendance were; Representative of Head of Service, Mr. Alesin ,Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Ojo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance represented by Mr. Olaofe Adebayo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget represented by Sunday Omotoso and all Project Implementation Unit Members L-PRES.
