Ekiti Govt Takes Firm Stance in State’s Wood Industry

In a bid to uphold standards and ensure the integrity of the wood industry in Ekiti State, the state government has taken a firm stance against alleged corner-cutting practices.

The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko Ajisafe who expressed Governor Oyebanji’s displeasure during a meeting held in her office with saw millers and the Association of Wood Exporters, emphasized the administration’s commitment to the welfare of citizens.

 

She stressed the importance of maintaining standard measures in the wood industry, highlighting the government’s dedication to upholding quality and fairness.

 

Erelu Aluko Ajisafe issued a one-month ultimatum for the industry to rectify any irregularities, underscoring the government’s resolve to ensure compliance with regulations.

Joining the call for accountability was the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry Mr. Babatunde Alokan and the Executive Secretary, of the Forestry Commission, Mr. Sunday Adekunle, urging stakeholders to take necessary actions to avert the looming problem.

 

Speaking on behalf of others, the National President of Wood Exporters, Mr. Ademola Oyaleke, pledged the association’s support, promising to strengthen the association’s task force to assist in enforcing standards within the wood industry.

 

The collaborative effort between government officials and industry representatives signals a concerted push towards ensuring transparency and quality assurance within Ekiti State’s wood sector. The meeting agreed that a more expansive stakeholders meeting across the state would be convened in due course.
