Ekiti 2026:Kayode Ojo To Begin LG Tour, Raises Concerns Over Alleged Arrest of Supporters, Demands Immediate Release

Ahead of the October 27, 2025 scheduled date for the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) one of the aspirants, Kayode Ojo has revealed that he would be embarking on the tour of the 16 Local Government Areas of the state to woo delegates and party members.

He also has raised concerns over the alleged intimidation, harassment and arrest of his supporters.

RAYOPOST reports that the aspirant who called the attention of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to the situation, noted that his supporters within the ruling APC were allegedly being arrested across the LGAs

Addressing journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital on behalf of the aspirant, the head of the Kayode Ojo Campaign Organization, Olukayode Oluyemo noted that the National Working Committee(NWC) has cleared him to participate in the scheduled primaries.

Expressing the optimism of Ojo defeating the incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji to be APC candidate for the June 20, 2026 election, he added that the tour of the 177 wards would commence on October 9.

He maintained that the growing support and acceptability of Ojo ahead of the APC primaries is allegedly making the camps of the incumbent governor jittery, adding that Ekiti residents are yearning for a fresh mandate he represents.

Oluyemo, however argued that supporters of the aspirant would not be deterred by the unprovoked intimidation, harassment and propaganda but focused on winning the ticket of the APC and the election for the state to witness all round development.

According to him, ” Politically motivated arrests and detentions violate these rights and cannot be justified under Section 45, which only allows limited restrictions that must be reasonably justifiable in a democratic society. Section 46 further empowers citizens to seek redress when their rights are violated.

” The APC Constitution also guarantees fair hearing and due process for members in all internal matters. Targeting or punishing members without due process is a clear breach of party rules and undermines internal democracy.

” We are prepared for the primaries scheduled for October 27, and I don’t want people to listen to the propaganda from our detractors who are jittery of the growing popularity and acceptance of Engr Kajode Ojo.He will win and defeat the incumbent in a free and fair contest.”

On the planned visit to the state for the local government tour by the aspirant, he appealed to security agencies to prevent possible breakdown of law and order, saying, ” intelligence reports indicate that a group of political thugs are threatening to disrupt this legitimate exercise.”

Another member of the campaign organization, Rt Hon Opeyemi Ajayi lamented the spate of attacks, adding that, ” they want to break our spirit and we are unshaken and undeterred because we are ready to take power away from the incumbent in APC.”

However, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, dismissed the allegations as baseless and mischievous, accusing Ojo of seeking cheap publicity to cover up his political unpopularity.

Olatunbosun noted that Ojo was merely attempting to drag the governor’s name into controversy to justify an anticipated poor performance in the forthcoming APC governorship primary.

“No popular aspirant or loyal APC member will accuse the government of blocking their movement or attacking their supporters. It’s not only untrue but a figment of imagination — a lie from the pit of hell.

“Politics requires mutual respect, collaboration, and camaraderie — not frivolous claims or media drama.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abutu Sunday denied the allegations and said that the police are preoccupied with the mandate of ensuring the security of lives and property in Ekiti State.

The PPRO said, ” the command is not aware of any malicious arrests of the supporters of any politician in the state. All we are concerned about is the security and protection of lives and property of all citizens.

” As part of our responsibilities, we investigate cases when they are reported and ensure justice is delivered without any political correlation or bias and if anyone has complaints, such should be channeled to the command for necessary action.”
