In a shocking turn of events, the house of Mr. Gbenga Samuel Olasegiri, located at 1 Olasegiri Close, Imo Community, Irese, Akure, was set on fire by men believed to be debt collectors from Mr Johnson Oyeyemi.
Mr. Olasegiri took a 35 million Naira loan from Mr Johnson and the loan was intended to fund his wife’s master’s degree trip to the United Kingdom.
However, despite numerous attempts by the lending company to recover the funds, Mr. Olasegiri failed to repay the loan.
The situation has led to severe repercussions for Mr. Olasegiri’s family back in Nigeria. Several debt collectors have reportedly threatened his parents living in the house.
Additionally, his younger brother, who stood as surety for the loan, has been arrested twice, and his car remains impounded by the police.
The situation escalated last week on 15th May,2024 , when a group of men, suspected to be debt collectors, invaded Mr. Olasegiri’s home. They set part of the house ablaze and destroyed various parts of the property, shouting, “We know you won’t pay but you won’t come back and meet anything good.”
Information gathered indicates that Mr. Olasegiri’s life in the UK has not gone as planned. He reportedly lost custody of his children to foster care, experienced a divorce, and is now trapped in a dire situation where he can neither return home nor move forward in the UK.
The tragic incident has left the Olasegiri family in distress, with a charred house and a looming sense of insecurity. The community calls for urgent intervention from authorities to ensure the safety of the family and bring the perpetrators to justice.
