BREAKING : Tinubu Withdraws Treasonable Felony Charge Against Sowore

The Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN has filed a nolle prosequi (notice of discontinuance) at the Federal High Court Abuja on the treasonable felony charge against journalist and Human rights Activist, Omoyele Sowore.

RAYOPOST gathered that the charge was filled by the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami under the administration of Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 after Sowore called for a revolution in the country.

According to the notice obtained by RAYOPOST and dated February 15,2024, Fagbemi said, ” By virtue of the power conferred on me under Section 174 (1) (c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, Section 107 (1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 and all other powers enabling me in that behalf, I Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN intend to discontinue Charge No: FHC/ABJ/CR/235/2019.”

Confirming the development, a Human Rights Lawyer, Inibehe Effiong on his verified X handle on Thursday morning said the former administration had no evidence to prosecute the case.

He wrote, ” They had no witnesses, no evidence and no legal basis to support the dubious charge. Because of this facade, Sowore has not been able to visit his family since 2019.

” The current AGF has terminated the time and money wasting charge instituted by Malami.”
