RESOLUTIONS OF THE JOINT ACTION COMMITTEE (JAC) OF SSANU, NASU AND NAAT OF ONDO STATE OWNED TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS AT THE MEETING HELD ACROSS CAMPUSES ON TUESDAY, 12TH MARCH, 2024.
The members of SSANU, NASU and NAAT held congresses across their campuses; namely: Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa and University of Medical Sciences, Ondo on Tuesday, 12th March, 2024 to review the industrial action embarked upon since 26th February, 2024 on the following agitations:
1. Payment of Thirty-five Thousand Naira (#35,000) wage award including its arrears as being paid to other workers in the state.
2. Implementation of 2019 minimum wage to some Universities where it has not been implemented with its attendant arrears in Ondo State.
3. 100% Increment in monthly Subvention so as to cater for billions of naira owed by each tertiary institutions on cooperative deductions, earned allowances and payment of entitlements of our retired members from the Universities.
Having met with the Government representatives at the instance of His Excellency, the Governor of the State, His Excellency, Lucky OrimisanAyedatiwa where the underlisted agreements were made:
a. That the wage award shall be paid to staff of tertiary institutions with the release of special intervention fund to the various institutions along with their March, 2024 subventions.
b. That nominal rolls of staff of the various institutions have been demanded from the leadership of the tertiary institutions to work out the financial implications of the wage award.
c. That the Government shall work out the modalities of payment since the core civil servants had already collected four tranches.
d. That the government shall release the approved budgetary allocations for the year 2024 to all the tertiary institutions in Ondo State.
After an extensive deliberation on our agreement/commitment with the Government, the Congresses therefore resolved as follows:
i.That the wage award be paid with its arrears as agreed with the leadership of JAC-ODSTI
ii. That the Government should also with effect from March, 2024 prove its commitment on the issue of increment in subvention to the various instituti
iii. That the Universities Governing Councils and Management of the institutions that have not implemented the 2019 minimum wage should do so with immediate effect and the arrears be paid henceforth, having noticed that the Governing Council members has been enjoying upward reviews in their allowances a long time ago.
iv. That the Government of Ondo State should release all the outstanding subventions of 2016/17 having paid outstanding salaries of other civil servants that were affected as well.
V. That the State Government should with immediate effect set up a visitation panel to all the tertiary institutions in the state as it is long overdue in line with the position of the laws establishing the institutions and composition of the panel should be made of men/women of proven integrity.
The Congress appeals to the Governor and Visitor to our Institutions, His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa, the Governing Councils and the Universities management to prove their commitments to the agreements reached during the meetings on the above issues raised in the interest of peace and industrial harmony in the State.
In view of the above resolutions, our Congress resolves to SUSPEND with effect from 12:00 am on Wednesday, 13th March, 2024 the ongoing strike of the Joint Action Committee of SSANU, NASU and NAAT of the Ondo State Owned Tertiary Institutions for 14 days to enable the State Government to implement all the agreements reached with us, failure to which the JAC of Ondo State Owned Tertiary Institutions would not hesitate to resume the suspended industrial action thereafter, please.
We want to appreciate the intervention of our amiable Governor, the Special Adviser on Education, the Head of Service, the Ondo State Head of Ministry of Labour and Productivity as well as the State Commissioner of Police for doing everything humanly possible that culminated in the suspension of the industrial action for TWO WEEKS.
